 Production of a Video Documentary on KK's health component activities under

PPR project in Upper Dir


Background and purpose/objective


Khwendo Kor (KK) is a Pashtu word which means "Sisters Home". It is a non profit, non government developmental organization established in 1993 to empower women, children and families in the villages of KP and FATA through its designed programs of education and health, economic empowerment and civil rights. KK's vision is to contribute to a compassionate society where women can live with dignity and self reliance.


Khwendo Kor (KK) is implementing a project in the partnership with Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) in District Dir Upper. There are 5 basic components of the program which are, Social Mobilization, Health, Education, Economic Improvement and Community Physical Infrastructure. All the programs are inter linked and deep routed with the local community.


KK intends to develop a video documentary to highlight the real picture of the community. What sort of health facilities they have and what are the main hurdles which adversely affect their health status ?


Though District Health Department is rendering health services throughout the district, but there is utmost need to give coverage to those issues which are far behind their approach. In Dir Upper most of the community members are un aware of the basic health issues and do not give any importance to it including polio vaccination, routine immunization, free and postnatal checkups etc. One of the purposes of the documentary is to highlight these issues and to divert the attention of the key authorities to the identified health problems.


Another purpose of the documentary is to capture the progress and change as a result of PPR implementation in health.


The documentary will also focus on the impact of KKs work by highlighting significant success stories of beneficiaries of our health component.


To achieve these objectives, KK seeks to hire the services of a competent consultant/firm for undertaking the following tasks;


1.      Specific tasks for the Consultant/firm


Under the direct supervision of the Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Research team at KK, the Consultant/firm will be required to;


P         Develop the documentary films overall concept and scenario.

P         Interview selected interviewees for the film who will include actual beneficiaries, local government officials, project staff and key programme staff of KK and PPAF.

P         Visit the project sites and interact with the local communities whove been impacted by the KK's supported health project to get context.

P         Develop the documentary script and story to be used in the film.

P         Present a draft documentary to KK for comments about contents.

P         Produce 05-07 minutes long DVD version documentary.


2.      Output /Deliverables


  • Meeting with project stakeholders in Dir upper and in the field to collect and record data;
  • Submit a story and script for the documentary to KK for approval before filming;
  • Present draft documentary to KK team at the end of the field mission and incorporation of comments;
  • Produce an edited Video Recording of the scenarios captured, and the footage of the recorded stories.
  • Present a complete 05-07 minute documentary film version, and hand over 2 master copies to KK.


5.         Required Qualifications and Experience of the Consultant/Firm


The consultant/firm will be required to have;


P         02 and above years of experience working in similar field.

P         Extensive experience in producing development work related documentaries for national and international organizations with the aim of reaching both local and international audience.

P         Local Knowledge of all the regions of KP particularly Dir upper.

P         Excellent technical capacities (state of art filming equipment preferably High Definition) to ensure smooth and high quality production.

P         Having understanding of local language and adherence to local cultural values.

P         Additional experience in development communication will be an added advantage.


6.         Duration of the Assignment


The assignment is expected to take 15 working days from the date of signing the contract.


7.         Intellectual Property


All information pertaining to this project (documentary, audio, digital, cyber, project documents, etc) belonging to the client (KK), which the consultant/firm may come into contact with in the performance of his/her, duties under this consultancy shall remain the property of KK who shall have exclusive rights over their use. Except for purposes of this assignment, the information shall not be disclosed to the public nor used in whatever without written permission of the KK in line with the national and International Copyright Laws applicable.


8          Contractual arrangements and supervision


The Consultancy firm will be hired under KK's terms of contract and supervised by the PMER section solely for the purpose of delivering the above outputs, within the agreed time frame.


KK as the Client shall provide necessary support to the Consultant/firm in order to execute the assignment during the duration of the consultancy.


Access to relevant project documents necessary for execution of the duties under this consultancy will be provided.


9          Remuneration


P         The Consultancy firms payment shall be based on the financial proposal developed for this consultancy.


P         Payment shall be made in three installments of;

  • 20% down payment upon submission of an inception report acceptable to KK.
  • 40% upon submission of an acceptable draft documentary; and
  • 40% final payment upon submission of the final outputs, incorporating suggestions and recommendations from KK. 

*Withholding taxes will be deducted at source


10        Application Procedure


Applicants are required to submit the following:

P         A Technical Proposa (Max 05 pages)l: Brief methodology on the approach and implementation of the assignment;

P         Personal CVs of technical personnel proposed for this project highlighting qualifications and  experience in similar projects; and

P         Work references - contact details (e-mail addresses) of referees (firms for whom youve produced similar assignments).

P         Financial proposal: indicating consultancy fee and a breakdown of expenses (unit price together with any other expenses) related to the assignment. The accumulative rate should be tax inclusive.



11        How,When and Where to Apply?


Interested individuals/firms should send the technical and financial proposal along with relevant supporting documents as stated in Application Procedure in a sealed envelope to Khwendo Kor Head office address  H - 130, Street - 4, Sector K - 3, Phase - 3, Hayatabad Peshawar  on or before June 30, 2016. Hand deliveries will not be accepted. KK may request the shortlisted individuals/firms for submission of evidence of their previous work.

Objectives of the training

The sessions and course content will cover the following topics

* Definition of GBV
* Types of GBV
* Root Causes and Consequences of GBV
* Prevention & Response of GBV in emergencies.

f. Methodology

*The methodology of the training will be participatory and experiential including group works etc

g. Required Expertise for the Consultant: (Male/Female)

1. Consultant should have in-depth and strong knowledge regarding GBV response, particularly in emergencies.
2. Masters in Social Sciences.
3. Proven knowledge of social & development sector particularly in the fields of capacity building and knowledge about GBV issues.
4. At least three years experience in delivering capacity development trainings
5. Expertise in development of training modules.
6. Fluency in English/Urdu and Pashto.

h. Resource persons responsibility

* To deliver the training within time frame.
* Developing training report, training contents and module.

i. Payment plan:

* Upon the completion of training course 75% of the total payment
* Upon submission of final training report 25% of the total payment
